Silver Jewellery Care

Caring For Your Silver Jewellery

Just like any other precious metals, sterling silver may oxidise over time. Thus, it’s important to take proper care of your Nalu Jewels to ensure that you get a lifetime’s worth of wear. You may be wondering how to take care of your jewellery. Maintaining your jewellery is easy, especially with our tips and tricks!

First thing’s first, let’s talk about our adjustable rings. Upon receiving your Nalu Jewels ring, it should be adjusted accordingly once, before sliding it onto your finger. We don’t recommend bending your rings when taking them on and off, as it may damage the pieces.

One thing to keep in mind is to always wash your hands before putting on or taking off jewellery. This is to prevent the natural oils from our hands from tarnishing our delicate Nalu Jewels pieces. Aside from that, be sure to avoid spraying perfume on your jewellery, as oils in perfumes tend to stick on its surfaces of the jewellery, which may cause it to oxidise.

To clean sterling silver jewellery, it is recommended that you use soft cloth to gently polish the pieces. Avoid using tissues or paper towels to clean your jewellery, as it can lead to scratches. However, if it needs a good scrub, consider using a toothbrush with soft bristles to get hard to reach areas. DIY methods such as using baking soda or toothpaste, to clean silver jewellery is not recommended. Be sure to avoid wearing sterling silver jewellery in swimming pools, as the chlorinated water will discolour the pieces.

Keeping your jewellery from being exposed to air and light is one of the most important ways to take care of your Nalu Jewels. Most people tend to overlook this but there is a right way to store your silver jewellery. Storing all your pieces together in one big box or pouch will only damage them. Plus, it can cause your necklaces to tangle and scratch other jewellery pieces. The best way to store them is to put individual pieces in a tarnish-preventive pouch or wrap it in a soft piece of felt or cloth. Felt prevents excessive moisture from getting onto the pieces and prevents premature tarnishing.

Ensuring your silver jewellery last for eternity does require work but we promise it’s all worth the effort! After all, who wouldn’t want their jewellery to continue to shine?
